Co-founder and Former Director: Kristen McDonald
Kristen McDonald earned a PhD from the University of California at Berkeley in Environmental Science, Policy and Management, researching rivers and river conservation in China. Prior to graduate school, she directed the Wild and Scenic Rivers program for the U.S. river conservation organization, American Rivers. She has helped coordinate three expeditions in China and is a former raft guide. She reads, writes, and speaks Chinese. Kristen is now Director of the China Program at Pacific Environment.
Interim Director: Travis Winn
Travis Winn, co-founder of the China Rivers Project is both an expert boater and an experienced expedition leader, having led his first river trip in China in 2003. Since then, Travis has led eleven major river expeditions in China and altogether has explored 25 different river sections in China. In the past he has worked as a river guide in Grand Canyon National Park and is a graduate of the University of Oregon in Asian Studies. He reads, writes, and speaks Chinese.
