Kristen in Gan BeiKristen in Gan BeiThe Mekong River, known as the Lancang River in China, starts in China’s Qinghai province and flows through Burma, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. The Mekong River basin is home to over 60 million people, and is a central part of the economy of countries downstream of China.

Three hydropower dams have been completed on the Mekong River in China (Jinhong, Manwan, and Xiaowan), and at least five more are in various stages of construction. In 2006, we participated in one of the last descents of the Yongbao Gorge section of the Mekong River, upstream of the Xiaowan Dam.
